Happiness is.....

....one of those sappy cartoons with those half-naked cherub things. You know what I'm talking about. My hometown newspaper used to publish them, and my best friend in sixth grade was convinced that they told the story of her ill-fated love with this slimy kid at the middle school in the next town over.

Actually, here's a Washington Post article on a study that found that people who tend to have an overall greater level of happiness than, say, Japanese folks, need more happy things to maintain that happiness. Or, if something crummy happened, people who were generally happy needed more happy things to occur to get back to that initial happy level. Seems like tolerance to a drug, huh?

And then, the NY Times reports on a study finding a happiness gap between men and women....

So, apparently, a monk in Myanmar is probably happier than an American woman.
